Alonzo King Lines Ballet San Jose Theatre reviews
Outstanding!
Tickets were not cheap, but my wife and I were blown away so I was concerned about whether this show was worth our while! My main reason for going was the comedy, and her main reason was the music. Neither of us were disappointed. Yes, this late in the tour many of the jokes were very rehearsed, but the juxtaposition between Steve Martin being a cool, well dressed and professional comedian versus Alonzo King Lines Ballet being the wild guy was really fascinating. The show delved a little into politics in the Jimmeny Glick skit, and you thought, "Oh no, please don't ruin this great show," but their moments alone on stage were the highlights, with Martin Short doing a song and banter, and Steve Martin with the banjo. The audience members coming on stage for the Three Amigos song (including the mayor of Stevens Point!) was really well done and a bit of improv for them. The Steep Canyon Rangers were beyond outstanding, and even the highest priced seats are worth seeing this show. If audience members could actually stay in their seats for two hours, it would have been perfect! Absolutely wonderful evening from two talented comedians. I've always been a Steve Martin and Martin Short fan, and my wife came to know Steve Martin from the Steep Canyon Rangers on Austin City Limits a few years back. The only thing I think the show was missing was to hear more of them. So my main reason for going was the comedy and her main reason was the music. We felt this show was worth the high ticket price. The juxtaposition between Steve Martin being a cool, well dressed and professional comedian versus Alonzo King Lines Ballet being the wild guy was really fascinating. The show delved a little into politics in the Jimmeny Glick skit, and you thought, "Oh no, please don't ruin this great show," but it was so well and professionally done that it made me respect both comedians even more.
